Description
The Rose Flower Medallion Corner rug is among the finest examples woven in the tradition of Qom silk rugs. Its overall composition is based on the Medallion Corner (Lachak-Toranj) design, one of the most authentic and enduring patterns in the Persian rug tradition. The field is richly ornamented with delicate khataei spirals interwoven with floral and foliate motifs. At its center lies an elongated, multi-layered medallion composed of an intricate arrangement of flowers and leaves, serving as the principal visual focus of the composition. In each of the four corner sections (lachak), suspended floral bouquets extend gracefully from both sides, visually linking the corner panels to the central field. The rose, or Gol-e Farang (European flower), is one of the defining motifs of this rug and is regarded as one of the most important and aesthetically refined decorative elements in Persian rug design. Beyond its ornamental significance, this motif also reflects the historical interaction of Iranian art and culture with other artistic traditions. The principal border is decorated with khataei spirals, large and small rose blossoms, and intertwining vegetal vines, and is framed by several narrower guard borders featuring complementary ornamental motifs. The rhythmic repetition of vegetal elements, the careful symmetry in the arrangement of decorative components, and the harmonious relationship between the field, medallion, and borders create a balanced and cohesive composition throughout the rug. The color palette is primarily based on shades of blue and violet, complemented by crimson, magenta, gold, cream, red, green, and orange. The use of warm colors in the floral motifs and central medallion, set against a field dominated by cooler tones, creates a clear visual distinction between the principal design elements and enhances their legibility. In addition, the subtle use of tonal shading in selected flowers and leaves contributes to greater visual depth and highlights the intricacy of the decorative details. It should be mentioned that this rug has Iran, Qom, Mousavi phrase in Persian that has been appended to the rug after weaving process.
